Purpose and Description:

The course is designed to provide a broad range of knowledge and skills relevant to emergencies in the working environment. Participants learn to be familiar with relevant legislation and to develop competence in the prevention of work injury or sudden illness. It is classified as a Level III course.

Pre-requisites

Students must have a current Senior First Aid Certificate.

Course Content:

>    Legal and ethical aspects of occupational first aid.
>    Emergency assessment and triage principles.
>    Basic life support principles and priorities.
>    Advanced resuscitation skills including oxygen apparatus &   defribrilator.
>    Wound care and classification.
>    Burns, scalds and acute poisoning in the workplace.
>    Selection and use of first aid equipment and materials.
>    Problem-solving skills in emergency care.
>    Reporting and record-keeping skills.

Course Duration

Minimum of eighteen hours. Course can be delivered onsite

Evaluation Method

Continuous assessment plus formal examination at the end of the course. Participants are required to pass theoretical and practical assessment tasks.

Course Award

Occupational First Aid certificate (valid for three years from date of issue).
